In September 2006 the Institute reintroduced clamping in an effort to stem the nuisance parking of a minority of car park users. There had been a major incident the previous year where an ambulance could not gain close access to a college building to aide a student who had collapsed. Last year ambulances were impeded by illegally parked vehicles from accessing St. Columbas Hospital.
The Institute has a duty of care under the 2005 Health, Safety and Welfare at work legislation to all users to maintain a safe place of work, this includes the management of safe car parks.
Please find attached a copy of the current wheel clamping procedure which details how and where clamping is carried out together with the appeals procedure.
Appeals will only be considered after payment of the release fee and submitted in writing in the manner described in the procedure.
The release fee is 50 euro, increasing to 200 euro if the clamp is tampered with or removed without authorisation.
