How can I get help?
IT Services are centrally located in Block B behind the book nest on the main corridor. The Student Helpdesk is in room B1024. Click here to view map.

How do I log in to use the computers?
You must first be registered by Human Resources (A2014) on the institute personnel information system CORE. Once this has been done IT Services will receive an automatic notification by email that a new person has commenced employment. We then set up your login ID, email, and provide access all other IT services.

Your new email address will be lastname.firstname@itsligo.ie

Please note: IT Services do not provide temporary logins for staff.

How can I change my password?
You can change your password by holding down ctrl-alt-del, when you are logged on.

Or go to the student IT helpdesk centrally located in Block B behind the Booknest on the main corridor. Room B1024; an IT Technician will reset it for you.

How do I check e-mail from off-campus?
Staff email can be accessed via the web site www.itsligo.ie go to the staff link on the top of the home page. You will then be directed to the staff page with a staff email link. http://webmail.itsligo.ie/

Can I connect to IT Sligo services from off-campus?

  • Adobe Connect (breeze)

SQL Servers and Network Drives are not available.

What do I need my staff card for?
Staff can use their card for library loans and it is also a useful identifier for IT Technicians when providing direct support for staff.

Can I connect my own laptop to the network?
Currently access to the IT Sligo LAN is available only to IT Sligo purchased Laptops. This restriction is in place to stop the spread of viruses, adware, spyware; and the use of unauthorised software across the network.

You can use your laptop across campus and connect to the wireless network. You can also connect you laptop in the student canteen area. Network points are available.

You cannot connect your personal laptop to any network data points in offices or labs. Staffs that do are in breach of the computer usage regulations.

Where do I go for IT help?
All Staff requests for IT help should be logged on our online helpdesk. http://helpdesk.itsligo.ie/

If your PC isn’t working you can use any PC in any office or LAB to log a request; or go to the student IT helpdesk centrally located in Block B behind the book nest on the main corridor. The Student Helpdesk is in room B1024. An IT Technician will log the request for you.

Please remember all IT Support staff work from an assigned ticketing system to agreed service level agreements and cannot deal with requests for support by phone or in person. Prioritisation of allocated requests is carried out by Senior Technical Staff in consultation with the IT manager.

Can I have new software installed in the computer labs I teach in?
In April/May IT Services invite software requests and requirements from Heads of Department for the next academic year starting September.

Major software installations and modifications to computer labs based on these requests take place in June, July and August.

Only minor modifications will be carried out by IT Services, during term time.

What do I do if I receive abusive or harassing e-mail?

Can I get support for my mobile devices?
IT Services provide support for mobile devices purchased for IT Staff by the Institute.

What regulations govern my use of IT services?
All staff usage of IT facilities is governed by the staff computer usage policy please read it carefully.

Can I have two accounts on the same system?
* Some lecturing staff may need a student account when teaching computer subjects. A request for a login ID can be made at http://helpdesk.itsligo.ie/

Can I create a personal Web page?
At IT Sligo staff members can create personal webpages. Webspace is available ot al staff.

Can I read my IT Sligo email from any computer?
Yes you can log onto our email service using Microsoft outlook web access. Staff email can be accessed via the web site www.itsligo.ie go to the staff link on the top of the home page. You will then be directed to the staff page with a staff email link http://webmail.itsligo.ie

How can I set up an email program on my own computer, like Outlook?
If you require Microsoft Outlook on your staff PC please log a request here http://helpdesk.itsligo.ie/

How can I forward my IT Sligo email account to my Google or Yahoo or other email account?
If you already have your own personal email account, you can easily forward your College emails to it, so you don’t miss any important messages. Select the link below and log in with your IT Sligo Account username and password.

How do I get a new PC?
If you are a new staff member and have not been provided with access to a PC please email helpdesk@itsligo.ie .

If the Staff PC you have currently is not fit for purpose, please log a request at http://helpdesk.itsligo.ie/. We will try to fix it and if a replacement is required you will receive a new or recycled PC. New PCs are provided to staff with agreement of Department Heads and subject to available budgets. IT Services audit all PC hardware across campus and make recommendations on the number of upgrades needed in each staff area across campus.

How will computer orders be handled for new staff?
All IT equipment is ordered through the Office Manager in the Office of Learning Environment. When the equipment arrives you will be contacted by IT Services support staff to arrange a suitable time for installation.

IT Services maintain a limited stock of recycled PC’s and associated equipment. If your Head of Department is agreeable and units are available we may be able provide you with a recycled PC.

Please Note: Details, Prices and Specifications are available from the Techncial Support Coordinator Ext 7282. Equipment is setup, deployed and installed by IT Services depending on the resources available. We will endeavour to have your equipment delivered at the earliest possible opportunity. IT Services Move Add Change Dispose (MACD) all IT infrastructure throughout campus. IT equipment not purchased through IT Services will not be connected to our campus network or installed and maintained by IT Support staff.

Can we schedule when our computers will be ordered and when they will be received?
Staff PCs are delivered in batches, during two periods throughout the year. Your new PC will be scheduled for delivery in either. Sep-Dec or Jan-Mar

Computer labs deliveries take place June to August only

How will computers be configured?
Each department will have specific software requirements. All PCs software installations are built to reflect the software requirements of the department. If you require additional software or modifications to existing software installed, please log a request at http://helpdesk.itsligo.ie/.

What are the steps for ordering a non-standard computer?
All specifications for IT equipment are managed by IT Services. If you require like a copy of current specifications for PCs Laptops etc. please Log a work request asking for this at http://helpdesk.itsligo.ie

ITS involvement in hardware purchasing is essential in relation to

  • Specification approval by the ITS department
  • Warranty and maintenance coverage
  • Obtaining replacement parts
  • Recommending/Supporting accompanying software
  • Licensing issues for supporting software
  • Specify whether new hardware is compatible with or feasible to use on current systems

Does IT Sligo have a VLE(Moodle, Blackboard, Egroups)?

EGroups is available to all staff.

Currently the School of Engineering manage and administer a Moodle VLE.
