IT Services for Students: FAQ
How can I get help?
IT Services are centrally located in Block B behind the Booknest on the main corridor. The Student Helpdesk is in room B1024.
How do I log on to the IT network?
When you become a fully registered student, a user account will automatically be set up for you.
Details on how to login for the first time will be outlined at induction. Help with logins is also available at the Student Helpdesk in room B1024. You can then log in to all IT Services. Computers, Email, Wireless and other services.
Your logon ID will be Sxxxxxxxx
Your email logon ID will be Sxxxxxxxx@mail.itsligo.ie
Your default password is your date of birth in the format DDMMYYYY.
(so if your DOB is 7th March, 1987, then your password is 07031987)
Your number will be printed on your student card.
Where do I store my files?
All students have space allocated on the campus network to store files. Your H: Drive can be found by clicking the “my computer” shortcut on the desktop.

How do I print my work?
All students have access to printing facilities in the computer labs and printing and photocopying facilities in the library. You will first need to put credit on you print account in the booknest book shop after which you will be ready to go. Click here to start printing
How do I check e-mail from off-campus?
Student email can be accessed via the web site www.itsligo.ie. Go to the student link on the top of the home page. You will then be directed to the current students page with a student email link. Click here to access your email.

How can I change my password?
You can change your password off campus by following this procedure.
- Go to https://webmail.itsligo.ie
- Login using your Student ID and current password.
- On the left hand side of the page select Options.
- Scroll down the Options page until you find the Change Password button.
- Click the Change Password button. This will launch the Internet Services Manager Page.
- Enter your Student ID in the Account box.
- Enter your current password in the Old password box.
- Enter your new password in the New password box.
- Re-enter your new password in the Confirm new password box.
- Select OK to finish
What computers are available?
Currently all computers across campus are Dell PCs. Upgrades take place every year. Computers and printing are available to use in all labs across campus between 9.00 and 22.00 hours. Students can use all PCs in B, D and E block. The library also provides access to computers. Please check timetables before entering labs as classes may be in progress. Wireless network access is also available across campus.
What software is available?
IT Services do not provide software for students. Some retailers do provide software at reduced prices for students. Clink here for details. Time limited versions of autocad are available to registered students at Click here for details.

When can I use the PC facilities?
Computers and printing are available to use in all labs across campus between Monday to Friday 09.00-22.00 and 09.00-16.00 Saturday.
Students can use all PCs in B, D and E block. The library also provides access to computers. Please check timetables before entering labs as classes may be in progress.
You can use your laptop and connect to the wireless network.
You can also connect you laptop in the student canteen area. Network points are available.
You cannot connect your laptop in labs to network data points. Students who do so are in breach of the computer usage regulations (link) and will have their privileges suspended. A fine is payable for breach of the regulations and disciplinary action may also result.
How can I check my examinations results?
Prior to the June and Autumn examination sessions, the Examinations Office will write to you giving you login details for Self Service Banner. Self Service Banner is a web based application used by the Institute to display Examinations results.

Virus Protection?
All students should have up to date virus protection on their laptops. A number of applications are available online both free and to purchase.
How do I learn to use the computer software in Labs?
Contact you Lecturer or Head of Department for help and software tutorials. IT services can provide help with technical support issues.

What regulations govern my use of IT services?
All computer usage is governed by the computer usage regulation. Read them carefully. IT facilities should not be used for any purpose other than institute business and academic use. Please take the time to read our computing usage regulations and be aware of your responsibilities when logged on to the campus network. For breaches of campus acceptable usage policies, disciplinary action will be taken and a fine of 20 Euro is payable for re instatement of computer privileges
